The Nordic countries are home to the amazing weather phenomenon: Polar Nights and Midnight Sun. Polar Nights is 24 hour darkness and occurs between 2-3 months during the winter. Then, in the months of June and July there is a period without darkness called the Midnight Sun. You might want to consider traveling during one of these periods!
To complete your Nordic experience, stay in one of the most unique places across the globe, an ice hotel. Ice hotels are built and re-built every winter from ice and packed with snow and held together by a mixture of snow and ice, called snice. Ice hotels provide sub-zero sleeping bags to keep guests warm during the middle of the night, but be sure to pack long thermal underwear and a sweater because the average temperature in the rooms is 21 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to -6 degrees Celsius.) These hotels are generally open from January to April, but depend heavily on the weather in the countries.
A few tips when staying at an ice hotel: make sure to put your regular clothes in the bottom of your sleeping bag, so you don't have to put on ice clothes the next day; go to the bathroom before bed and remember ice hotels are a novelty experience, so do not plan to spend the entire trip in an ice hotel.
